It's only crazy when it doesn't work.
Last year, Cory and I became New Orleans Saints season ticket holders and last year, our heart was broken. After all that heartbreak, driving back and forth to Monroe was even more of a downer. So, when August rolled around and we now live in the city, we started a few traditions before and after each home game.
9:20am: After getting off the streetcar, it's time to pull out the beers from my purse and cheers to game day. I can feel some judgement coming from you (yes, you) but we aren't worried about it. As Cory would say, you can't drink all day if you don't start in the morning. I'll tell you though, for the last two games, I've put my beer in my jacket and walked into Champions Square to drink it there. I'm not even sorry about it.
10am: After walking to the CBD, we have breakfast at Lucy's Retired Surfers Bar. There's always songs relating to the Saints playing, outside games and the yummiest food. We love to order the Pulled Pork Hash to share and Cory starts with either a Bloody Mary or OJ and I love the Flamingo. If you're in Nola, try this place ya'll. After eating, singing a few verses of 'Stand up and get krunk' and grabbing a drink to go, it's time to walk to our Sunday home-- The Dome.
11am: I absolutely love going to Champions Square to watch the bands performing. Cory, not a fan. But, because he's a good man, we get there when the bands only have about 10 or 15 minutes left to play. Then, Bruce Katz comes on the stage and directs us all into the Dome.
Come along for the ride!
8am: Wake up. I mean, it's gameday! Get dressed and head out the door by 9am (thankful for almost all noon home games).

9am: Hop on the streetcar. It's a quick ride into the city and to our favorite breakfast place. As you read before, the streetcar is a great place for people watching and besides before the Cowboys game, it's usually just full of Saints fans.

And that my friends is how the O'Bryants spend Sunday morning and afternoon on game days!
*tonight, we have added Baskin Robbins to our tradition because we are sad and hearing the smug 49er fans was the worst.

Love game day traditions.
ReplyDeleteWe'll have to try Lucy's Retired Surfers Bar! For the food, I mean. ;-)
